Midges: Winter Food Source for Large and Small Trout

Had to tie some HMG Midge patterns for winter fishing on any and all tail water streams. It is said, midges makeup 70% of a trout’s diet. This is especially true during the winter months when hatches are few and far between meals. Large trout prefer “meat” but when absent will dine on midges all day long. Those in the photo are tied on a size 20 scud hook. NOT a single thread wrap in any of the two-dozen shown. The major component is, of course, hot melt glue.
